Dr. Aristotle Onumo

Dr. Aristotle Onumo is an accomplished information systems professional, cybersecurity specialist and public sector administrator with over two decades of experience in digital governance, information security management, technology policy development and strategic planning. He currently serves as the Director of the Special Duties Department at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), where he contributes to the implementation of strategic initiatives supporting Nigeria's digital transformation and national technology development objectives.
His professional career spans several government institutions, including the National Planning Commission and NITDA, where he has held technical and senior management responsibilities. His experience encompasses the deployment and management of public sector information technology infrastructure, cybersecurity governance, business process reengineering, project management and institutional strategy development. He previously served as Head of Information Technology at the National Planning Commission, contributing to the management and development of government information systems.
At NITDA, Dr. Onumo has held several leadership positions, including Acting Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy and Director of Stakeholder Management and Partnerships. In these capacities, he contributed to the implementation of the Agency's 2021–2024 Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, the development of its Corporate Balanced Scorecard and organisational initiatives aimed at improving strategic performance, institutional coordination and the adoption of digital technologies.
He has played an important role in supporting Nigeria's technology entrepreneurship ecosystem. His contributions include helping to establish the country's first government-led technology incubation hub for startups and entrepreneurs. He also co-initiated the Graduate Internship Scheme for Information Technology, designed to provide young information technology graduates with practical digital skills and entrepreneurial opportunities. His work has further supported funding initiatives for startup acceleration programmes and the development of partnerships involving technology companies, government institutions and innovation organisations.
As Director of Special Duties, Dr. Onumo contributes to high-level institutional engagements and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria's digital economy. In 2026, he participated in engagements involving the implementation of NITDA's Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0), technology entrepreneurship and collaboration between government agencies and emerging startups. He has also supported partnerships designed to improve access to investment, digital skills and market opportunities for indigenous technology enterprises.
In October 2026, he contributed to NITDA's collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), aimed at strengthening technology investment, enterprise development and market access. The partnership includes initiatives to connect Nigerian startups with corporate investors and provide digital and artificial intelligence skills to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
