DCG Augusta Obianime, psc, pcc (RTD.)

Deputy Comptroller-General Augusta Obianime (Rtd.) is an experienced public sector administrator and immigration management professional with 35 years of service in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Her career spans immigration administration, information and communications technology, cybersecurity and institutional capacity development. Until her retirement in September 2026, she served as the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of the ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate, where she provided strategic leadership for the development, security and management of the Service's digital information and communications systems.
Throughout her career, DCG Obianime held progressively senior responsibilities within the Nigeria Immigration Service, contributing to institutional development and the modernisation of immigration administration. She was promoted to Comptroller of Immigration in 2021 and subsequently rose to the rank of Deputy Comptroller-General. Her leadership responsibilities included overseeing digital infrastructure, information security and initiatives supporting technology-enabled migration management and border governance.
As Head of the ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate, she played a significant role in strengthening the Service's cybersecurity preparedness and promoting the protection of sensitive national information. She supported the development of institutional cybersecurity awareness programmes focused on cyber threat prevention, digital forensics, data protection and the security of critical immigration infrastructure. In October 2025, she participated in the launch of the Service's cybersecurity awareness campaign, advocating continuous professional training and greater institutional vigilance against emerging digital threats.
In June 2026, DCG Obianime led the Directorate's two-day Cybersecurity Awareness Programme at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja. The programme equipped immigration personnel with practical knowledge of cyber risks, threat intelligence and information security practices. She emphasised the importance of strengthening cybersecurity awareness across all levels of the Service to protect national data and support effective immigration administration.
She also contributed to the integration of emerging technologies into the Service's operations. In July 2026, she coordinated the second phase of the NIS Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Capacity Building Programme, which was expanded to accommodate 220 officers. The initiative followed the establishment of an Inter-Directorate AI and Blockchain Committee to strengthen institutional cooperation and explore the application of emerging technologies to border security, migration management and operational efficiency.
Beyond her responsibilities within the Service, DCG Obianime participated in interagency and international engagements addressing technology-enabled security threats. She contributed to discussions between the Nigeria Immigration Service and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking facilitated through digital platforms. She advocated sustained technical cooperation, intelligence sharing and capacity development to strengthen the Service's ability to identify and respond to cyber-enabled criminal activities.
In September 2026, she retired after 35 years of service to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and was honoured by the Nigeria Immigration Service at a valedictory ceremony recognising her dedication, leadership and contributions to institutional development. DCG Augusta Obianime remains a respected public service professional whose career reflects a commitment to national security, digital transformation and the strengthening of Nigeria's immigration management systems.
