Dr Aminu Maida

Dr. Aminu Maida is an accomplished technology executive, telecommunications specialist and public sector administrator with extensive international experience in telecommunications, financial technology and enterprise technology. He currently serves as the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), where he provides strategic leadership and regulatory oversight for Nigeria's telecommunications industry. He was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 11 October 2023 and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on 15 November 2023.

His professional career spans several leading international technology organisations, including British Telecom, Cisco Systems and EE Limited in the United Kingdom. He worked as a Systems Engineer at Ubiquisys Limited, a telecommunications technology company specialising in small-cell network solutions, before serving as a Network Design Consultant at EE, part of BT Group. He subsequently held a senior management position at Cisco Systems, contributing to telecommunications technology development and network solutions.

Before joining the NCC, Dr. Maida served as Chief Technical Officer of Arca Payments Network, a Nigerian financial technology company. He later became Executive Director of Technology and Operations at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), where he led initiatives to strengthen Nigeria's electronic payment infrastructure. His responsibilities included improving technical standardisation and interoperability across payment terminals and financial transaction systems.

As Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Maida has focused on improving telecommunications service quality, expanding broadband infrastructure, strengthening regulatory compliance and protecting consumer interests. His strategic priorities emphasise data-driven regulation, industry collaboration and the creation of an enabling environment for investment and innovation. He continues to promote policies aimed at improving network resilience, bridging the rural-urban connectivity gap and supporting the growth of Nigeria's digital economy.

Dr. Maida holds a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, obtained in 2002, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, awarded in 2006. He also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship, specialising in Financial Technology, from Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, between 2018 and 2019.

With a professional background combining engineering expertise, technology management and public sector leadership, Dr. Aminu Maida has contributed to the development of telecommunications and digital payment systems in Nigeria and internationally. He remains committed to strengthening Nigeria's communications infrastructure, promoting responsible regulation and expanding access to reliable digital connectivity.
