Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu

Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu is an accomplished social entrepreneur, educationist and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education advocate with extensive experience in digital skills development, educational innovation and youth empowerment. She is the Founder and Managing Director of Edufun Technik Limited, a technology education and social enterprise based in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. She is recognised for her contributions to expanding access to practical STEM education, particularly for girls and young people in underserved communities.

Her professional career began in social work, where she supported educational opportunities for vulnerable young people. Motivated by the limited access to technology education in many Nigerian communities, she established Edufun Technik in 2014 to introduce children and young people to coding, robotics, computer programming and other practical technology skills. The organisation has since developed into a STEM education centre providing curriculum development, teacher training, technology workshops and mentorship programmes.

Under her leadership, Edufun Technik has implemented educational initiatives in schools and underserved communities, introducing thousands of learners to digital technologies and practical problem-solving. Through classroom instruction, after-school programmes and teacher development initiatives, the organisation has worked to strengthen STEM education and encourage more girls to pursue careers in science and technology. Her work also includes partnerships with educational institutions and technology organisations to improve access to digital learning resources.

One of her most notable achievements came in 2018 when she mentored Team Save-A-Soul, a group of five female students from Regina Pacis Secondary School, Onitsha, who won the Junior Division of the Technovation World Pitch competition in Silicon Valley, California, United States. The students developed FD-Detector, a mobile application designed to help address the problem of counterfeit pharmaceutical products in Nigeria. Their achievement attracted national and international recognition, including commendation from Nigeria's then Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Beyond her entrepreneurial activities, Mrs. Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu has contributed to educational development and youth advocacy through public and private sector engagements. She has served as Chairperson of the Anambra State Youth Advisory Board Committee and participated in the Anambra State 50-Year Development Planning Committee. She has also supported programmes promoting digital literacy, online safety and technology-based entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria, and a Certificate in Innovative Business and Entrepreneurship from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, United States.

In recognition of her contributions to education and youth development, she was selected as a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow under the United States Government's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). She was also selected for the Obama Foundation Leaders: Africa programme, which brings together emerging African leaders working to address social and economic challenges across the continent.

Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu remains an advocate for inclusive technology education, gender equality in STEM and the development of Africa's next generation of innovators. Through Edufun Technik, she continues to promote practical learning opportunities that equip children and young people with the skills needed to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
