Mr. Babatunde Bamigboye is an accomplished legal practitioner, data protection specialist and regulatory policy expert with extensive experience in litigation, legislative drafting, arbitration and professional capacity development. He currently serves as the Head of Legal, Enforcement and Regulations at the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), where he contributes to the development and enforcement of Nigeria's data protection framework and the protection of individuals' privacy rights.
His professional career spans legal practice, regulatory advisory services and institutional capacity building, with over 20 years of experience in training and professional development. He has developed particular expertise in data privacy jurisprudence, focusing on its relationship with international law and human rights. His work encompasses the development of legal frameworks, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution and the protection of fundamental rights in an increasingly digital environment.
As Head of Legal, Enforcement and Regulations at the NDPC, Mr. Bamigboye plays a significant role in the implementation of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023. His responsibilities encompass regulatory enforcement, legal interpretation, compliance monitoring and stakeholder engagement. He has contributed to regulatory initiatives aimed at strengthening accountability among data controllers and processors, improving organisational compliance and protecting citizens against the unlawful processing of personal information.
He has also represented the Commission in engagements with government institutions, professional associations and international regulatory bodies. In 2025, he led discussions with the Data Privacy Lawyers Association of Nigeria on strengthening legal representation and judicial capacity in data protection matters. In 2026, Mr. Bamigboye contributed to the Commission's sector-specific compliance and enforcement initiatives, including regulatory audits of tertiary institutions and measures requiring Ministries, Departments and Agencies to comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act. These activities form part of efforts to strengthen responsible data governance and improve institutional accountability across Nigeria's public and private sectors.
Mr. Bamigboye has undertaken specialised executive training in International Law of Cyber Operations at the University of Reading, United Kingdom. He is also a Certified Data Protection Regulation Practitioner (CDPRP), having obtained professional certification through Clear Corporation UK. In 2024, he was appointed an International Fellow of the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC). During his fellowship, he participated in international engagements on privacy regulation, including discussions at the American University Washington College of Law on strengthening data protection enforcement and safeguarding fundamental rights.
